  • 2 tablespoons coarse Himalayan pink salt USA: about 28g | UK: about 2 heaped tbsp
  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper USA: about 7g | UK: 1 level tbsp
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder optional (USA/UK: approx. 3g)
  • 1 teaspoon dried herbs of choice – thyme rosemary, or oregano (USA/UK: approx. 1g)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or unsalted butter USA: 14g | UK: 1 tbsp
  • Your choice of protein chicken breast, beef steak, fish fillet or vegetables (e.g., zucchini, mushrooms, carrots)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest USA/UK: zest of about half a lemon

Method

  1. Prepare the Pink Salt Blend: In a small bowl, mix together the Himalayan pink salt, black pepper, garlic powder (if using), and dried herbs of your choice.
  2. This mixture forms a flavorful crust that enhances the natural flavor of your protein or vegetables.
  3. Prepare the Protein or Vegetables: If using chicken, steak, or fish, pat them dry using paper towels to ensure a good sear.
  4. If using vegetables, slice them into evenly sized pieces to promote even cooking.
  5. Seasoning Step: Rub the olive oil or melted butter all over the protein or vegetables.
  6. Generously sprinkle the pink salt blend onto all sides, pressing it in slightly to adhere.
  7. Sprinkle the lemon zest on top for added brightness and aromatic flavor.
  8. Cooking the Ingredients:
  9. For Chicken: Preheat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat.
  10. Cook the chicken breast for about 6-7 minutes per side, depending on thickness, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  11. Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
  12. For Beef Steak: Heat a cast-iron skillet until very hot. Add a touch more oil if needed.
  13. Sear the steak for about 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or cook longer depending on your desired doneness.
  14. Allow the steak to rest for 5 minutes.
  15. For Fish: Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat with a bit of oil or butter.
  16. Cook fillets for about 3-5 minutes per side, depending on thickness, until opaque and flaky.
  17. For Vegetables: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) or set up a grill pan.
  18. Roast or grill seasoned vegetables for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through, until nicely browned and tender.
  19. Serve and Enjoy:Serve hot with your favorite sides such as rice, mashed potatoes, or a fresh salad.
  20. Optionally, squeeze a bit of fresh lemon juice over the top for extra zing.

Notes

You can make a large batch of the pink salt spice mix and store it in an airtight jar for future use.
This method works especially well for grilling or pan-searing – the salt blend helps create a delicious crust.
You can substitute olive oil with avocado oil or ghee for different flavor profiles.
